Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of death in the United States annually. It causes nearly 600,000 deaths every year which is similar to having a deadly coronavirus pandemic every year – year on year! These numbers occur despite the US having the ‘best’ resources and technologies to deal with acute Cardiovascular disease. So why aren’t the numbers declining?

It is becoming abundantly clear that a new approach to Cardiovascular Medicine is required. One that is not reactive i.e. treating the disease, but rather a proactive approach focused on PREVENTION. Recently, so much advancement has been made in the field of Cardiovascular Medicine, yet much of the clinical practice has unfortunately remained the same. Integrative or Functional Cardiology is a field that is bridging this gap of bringing a more preventive approach to the forefront.

We now have advanced testing such as genomic evaluation, advanced lipid assessment, and endothelial function that gives us clues to detect early Coronary Heart disease giving us a golden opportunity to prevent an event from occurring years prior. This type of an approach to Cardiovascular Medicine is so important yet it is significantly underutilized. If more providers adopted this approach, we could see our rates of CVD significantly decline.

At our practice, this is precisely the approach we take to Cardiovascular disease. Reach out if you would like to learn more about our approach.
